Former High Commissioners
Her Excellency Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam ( 30 June 2009 - 8 August 2013)
She was appointed as the High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on the 30th of June 2009, after having served as the Advisor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since February 2009.
High Commissioner Shehenaz graduated from University of Newcastle, Australia with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Education in 1994, and with an MPhil in Mathematics Education in 1999 from University of Waikato, New Zealand. She obtained a Phd in Mathematics Education in 2004 from University of Auckland, New Zealand, followed by a Postdoctoral Research fellowship from University of Alaska, Fairbanks in 2005.
Before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, High Commissioner Shehenaz worked in the Maldives education sector in different capacities as a Mathematics Teacher, Assistant Principal, and finally as the Executive Director of Ministry of Education responsible for the educational supervision and quality improvement of schools. She was also the UNESCO Education for All (EFA) programme National Coordinator, Chairperson for Villa Foundation Scholarship Board and Advisory Board of Live and Learn Maldives and the Secretary for the South Asia Foundation Maldives Chapter. In addition, High Commissioner Shehenaz participated in a number of international conferences and workshops and presented papers. She has published books and contributed to a number of journals.
Currently, in Pakistan, High Commissioner Shehenaz is also an executive committee member of an NGO – Islamabad Foreign Women’s Association (IFWA) and is involved in SAARC Human Resource Development activities.
His Excellency Mr. Adam Hassan ( 3 June 2008 – 17 May 2009)
H .E. Mr. Adam Hassan was appointed as the first resident High Commissioner of Maldives to Pakistan on 3 June 2008.His Excellency Mr. Adam Hassan then presented his Credential to His Excellency Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on 31 October 2008.
During his tenure as the High Commissioner of Maldives to Pakistan, he has made number of important calls on high dignitaries of the government of Pakistan and also made calls to the Ambassadors/High Commissioners accredited to Maldives based in Pakistan. H .E. Mr. Adam Hassan has also participated in number of SAARC meetings, seminars and many other important events.
The High Commissioner also made an initial effort to promote trade between Maldives and Pakistan, thereby having official talks with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Karachi in strengthening the ties both countries share.
High Commissioner Adam also maintained a very friendly atmosphere within the Maldivian community in Islamabad, thereby hosting receptions on different occasions, and personally supported and assisted the students studying in Islamabad.
The High Commissioner was recalled on 17 May 2009, and is now appointed as the Ambassador of Maldives to Saudi Arabia.
